Happy New Year

New year's resolution to improve your Cantonese?

Wednesday evening classes start on 22nd January 2014 we're a friendly informal group focused on conversation, but we usually do a little bit of reading too.
The 6pm class is held at the Camden Chinese Community Centre 9 Tavistock Place London WC1H 9SN
The 8pm class is smaller and usually meets at Costa coffee
Your first class is free to see if the level suits you (and you can try both 6pm & 8pm if you like).

Complete beginner? SiuMay's also teaching on Saturdays 11.00-12.30 at the Chinese Community Centre in Leicester Square.
2 Leicester Court, London WC2H 7DW.
They need a minimum of 4 students for the class to run, (but i don't think they do free trial classes).
Please call the centre manager to enrol/further info: 020 7439 3822

Happy New Year!

Tones - the little numbers on this blog

Cantonese has six tones, we use numbers after each word to identify them
1 = High Falling - as in King
2 = Mid-rising - you??
3 = Mid-level - boon3 (half)
4 = Low Falling - kingdom
5 = Low-rising - ngoh5 (I, me)
6 = Low-level - ngoh5 dei6 (we) sounds like day

alas they're very important, see:
